Blood Drive Wrap Up
On Thursday, January 28 Student Council (STUCO) held its first blood drive of the year. Cabinet plans this event months in advance and works weeks to sign students up to donate.
Senior Cabinet Secretary, Kiley Huslig, who is in charge of STUCO’s blood drives, said, “We work closely with the Community Blood Center to inform the school and community about how important it is to donate [blood].” Over 200 students signed up to give their blood.
Some have donated multiple times while others experienced their first time on Thursday.
Senior Kayla Forsyth said, “This was my first time, it wasn’t fun but the outcome was good.”
On the other hand Junior Savannah Strain has donated four times. Strain said, “I do it because I am able to. I like to help people who are going to need blood in any way.”
Each student who gives blood will save three lives, which is why many put up with the pain. Huslig feels it is very important to for teens to donate blood. “If they donate now it teaches them to give back to their community,” she said.
