Winter Weather – NWS prepares for Major Winter Event
Springfield – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Springfield is preparing for a major winter event. PN Media spoke with the NWS in Springfield this evening about the latest models and predictions for winter precipitation in the Ozarks over the next 24 hour period. ” Snowfall for the event will come mainly after midnight for the Springfield area, light precipitation may start a few hours before that.” the NWS said. The major ice storm that hit northern Arkansas last year is not expected to be a repeat for southern Missouri. “Greene country and the Springfield area will see mainly snow, areas closer to the Arkansas border and south could see some build up of a wintery mix.” the NWS said. Local residents had also been concerned with the forecast of snow for Monday in addition to what will already be on the ground. According to the NWS, “There’s about a 30% chance of perpetration, it will take more of a northernly track, which will limit its access to Gulf moisture.” Regardless the National Weather Service says that Springfield and surrounding areas could see close to seven inches of snow base off the latest models. Stay tuned to PN Media and our Winter Weather tools for the latest.
